Rhys Chatham: A Crimson Grail

I performed as part of the ensemble in Rhys Chatham’s A Crimson Grail, an antiphonal work for 200 electric guitars, 16 electric basses and percussion, at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park in August 2009. Chatham, inspired to guitar minimalism by a 1976 Ramones gig at CBGB, conducted from the bandshell while guitarists surrounded the audience in a horseshoe. Ribbon-like melodies, created and obscured by overtones, moved through the haze. The performance was recorded and released on Nonesuch Records.
